CT Angiogram (Cardio)

CT coronary angiography is the best non-invasive method to obtain a complete comprehensive evaluation of the walls and lumen of the coronary arteries as well as the cardiac chambers.The Toshiba 16-slice CT at our affiliate Cardiomed Heart Centre and ImagingMed is located at Pier 3 in Central, Hong Kong. A scan is a brief outpatient visit and can be a minor part of your vacation visit to Hong Kong. Ask your cardiologist for advice.

Applications of CT angiogram?

  • Evaluation of coronary arteries in people with high risk factors for CAD, e.g. hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, positive family history of CAD and smoking.

  • Evaluation of patients with abnormal Exercise Tolerance Test.

  • Evaluation of patients with a typical chest pain.

  • Periodic follow-up of patients with known CAD who do not want or cannot undergo conventional coronary angiography.

  • Diagnosis and follow-up of patients with Congenital Heart Disease.

Preparations

  • Female patients of age 12-50 must inform staff if they could be pregnant.

  • The examination may take one to two hours

  • Fasting (except for water or oral medications) for at least 4 hours before the examination. For diabetic patients on other anti-diabetic drugs, consult the clinician for the adjustment of the dosage if necessary. Physician or Clinical staff may ask you allergic history. Steroid cover is required for patient with history of allergy / asthma. Instructions will be given by the physician.

  • Our staff will explain in detail on the purpose and procedure of the examination. You may ask to sign a consent form.

Procedures

1. The contrast medium can highlight specific areas inside the body, resulting in a clearer picture. You may feel warm all over when it is injected through your arm. Contrast medium injection can cause the slight (e.g. vomit, measles) or serious reactions (e.g.: asthma, shock, renal failure or spasm). *The chance of causing death is minimal.

2. You are required to remain still during the exam to ensure the images are clear.

3. The examination table will move into and out of the scanner opening. Only a small part of your body will be inside at any one time. You may be asked to hold the breath to be sure that the images will not be blurred.
