PET-CT Scan (Cancer)
With the limited facilities available for cancer diagnosis in Manila, more Filipinos are opting to travel to Hong Kong for a PET-CT scan (Positron Emission Tomography and CT). Healthway’s sister company AmMed Cancer Center at the Adventist Hospital in Hong Kong operates the latest model GE PET-CT installed in January 2007 (replacing its older PET-CT machine). The only available machine in the Philippines is an older technology PET with a separate CT at a major local hospital (as of Sept 2007).
The price at AmMed is comparable to the local prices so one just has to add the cost of travel. Patients may travel to Hong Kong early in the morning and arrive in Hong Kong in time for a noon scan and return to Manila in the evening. The results are available the following day and may either be picked up or sent to Manila via courier. Overseas patients may pay via credit card. Bookings can be made 3 days in advance depending on availability of slots. The center is open Monday-Friday only.
The AmMed Cancer Center is affiliated with the Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Institute in New York and is considered a leader in its field in Asia. Aside from its PET-CT, AmMed has an IMRT linear accelerator for radiotherapy and a chemotherapy infusion center. It recently opened a similar cancer center at the famous Ruijin Hospital in Shanghai.
